3/3/2023 0 Comments Strider knives reviews![]() Suppose that’s why the SMF was the official Marine corps knife in 2008.įit and Finish 8/10 (not pretty polished blades ect, but can’t fault any machining) Makes me think of typical military technology where light strong and fast is good. Once it slips into your pocket, ITS GONE!!! It so thin and light, with this strong overbuild feeling. ![]() The pivot is very over build as expected. The clip and lock bar stabiliser is a nice piece of work. Another reason for the extended finger choil, and may be more the reason for its design, is that it also acts to prevent losing a finger if lock failure occurred. The Strider may run out of cutting surface, but it still has a bit of blade length (choil) before running up against the handle. Although cutting through a thick object would not be the same between the two, as a Para2 will run out of blade and run up against the handle. It has similar cutting surface to Spyderco Para2. You lose out on a lot of cutting surface. If held at the rear, you have massive reach, good for defence. Once you blade is locked up nice and tight, you have an incredible grip! Its large, flat, curvy, grippy handle inspires confidence. If anyone has any input on the matter, or challenges what I’m saying, please let me know so I’m not blind folded my whole life .īack to the actual review. The spyderco ti-military was also very impressive. So the reason for this whole explanation which is probably useless info, and possibly incorrect, is that the Strider SMF wins hand down in theory regarding lock strength compared to the other knives. A wider recess may flex a bit more before which could be seen as better factor in the case of a shock impact (which is what would more likely bend titanium). I do believe this result is less important than the volume over 1mm width, as that is the weakest piece at one given point. The larger the width of the recess the worse. I will mark the Curved recesses with an (X), which will have impact on the results. The curved ones will be stronger then a flat one, as it increases volume of titanium and the shape can aid in strength. Some of the recesses are flat, and come are curved. Then comes the next aspect, the width of the recess. Here are some other comparisons from weak to strong: Therefore 12.65 would be stronger measurement then let’s say 10.5 as the volume is more. ![]() That gives me a volume of area of titanium for let’s say 1mm width across the recess on that lockbar.Įxample: XM18 dimensions- 1.1 (thickness of recess) x 11.5 (height of recess)x 1(for 1mm width of recess) = 12.65 So I measure the thickness of the lock bar recess, usually 0.8mm-1,2mm, then I multiply it by the height of that recess, usually between 10mm-15mm. ![]() A knife is only as strong as its weakest point. For me, strong lock bars prevent lock slip a bit better, and the strider is defiantly doing well here.Īnother “theorem of Pythagoras” philosophy I have, just to give me a small sense of how strong a lock bar is, I measure the recessed area on the lock bar. It should be hard strong lock, Maybe someone complained that their little fingers hurt too much if the lock bar is too strong to move over, who knows. (I hate it when they don’t bend the lock bar enough, and you can use the pinky to disengage the lock. A very solid lock up, with nice pressure on the lock. Then you have the oblong “spydie” hole to deploy blade, and out comes an almost full flat ground S30V blade with tiger stripes. I currently have a Spyderco Ulize and the SMF infront of me, and the skinny ass Ulize is heavier then the SMF. It doesn’t quit make sense why this knife is as light as it is. But personal preference I guess.įirst impressions, the second I picked the knife up, I was blown away by how light it was for such big hard knife. CC and DGG are usually more preferred in the SMF as it makes it easy to carry. You then get 3 versions available, LEGO which is g-10 that is the same thickness throughout the handle, then CC (conceal carry?) which has been tapered as it nears the end, and then DGG (Double Gunner Grip?) which is same taper to the ends of the knife, but with the textured dimple machining effort. While on the hunt for my strider, since it’s known to be a hard core knife, I only wanted a SMF. Each being the same in design, just size difference. There are 3 different sizes, PT being the smallest, then SNG, then SMF. I couldn’t care less, he makes good products. So most of the hardcore American patriots do not like to support him. Something along the line of Mick Strider not giving his correct credentials in the military, and has been arrested for carjacking somewhere along the line. Regarding the knife, It has politics, but who cares. I have been searching for one these for a long time, I wouldn’t of owned this (or hinderer) if it wasn’t for SA blade. After some swift negotiations with Jay aka Hoggernaut, I traded him a XM18 for this SMF DGG.
